Stepping On Legos - Things I Love

Misspoken

I love the little words that kids say incorrectly. It’s a reminder that they really are still little. Here are a few of her recent misspeaks:

  • Swaddle – Addy says “Swallow”. It makes me laugh out loud every time she says “I need to swallow my baby” 🙂
  • Besides – Addy says “Decides” every time. hee.
  • She had a shake with a cherry in it. She ate the cherry and then stuck the stem out the side of her mouth and said “Don’t I look like a steamer?” I could not figure out, for the life of me, what a steamer was. The only steamer we talk about is the Steamer (steamed milk) she frequently orders from Starbucks. I could not figure out what a cherry stem had to do with that! After going back and forth she finally got exasperated and said “Whatever. I guess I mean a Smoker”. As in cigarettes! But it was so funny we all busted out laughing. And then I was horrified because why would my 5 year old daughter throw a stem out the side of her mouth and try and look all sexy-cool? The only image I’ve ever portrayed of smoking and smokers is very vile and awful. Cartoons? I don’t know but I don’t like it. I’ve never worried about my kids smoking but she….you watch…she’ll be the one I worry about! Still..a steamer. heehee.
  • Recently she was naming all of Teegan’s favorite bands. They include Pink and Nickelback. Except she called Nickleback “Penny Rock”. heehee – get it? Nickle. Penny. Ha. She cracks me up.
  • One of the cuter misspeaks is the word seriously. She uses it as an adjective instead of an adverb. “I’m seriously!” or “Are you seriously?”.
  • Recently we saw a mama cat with three kittens outside near our new house. We considered rescuing them but thought maybe they belonged to someone. We knocked on the doors but no one answered. We ended up leaving them but a few days later when we went to see if they were still there and I said I hoped they were gone, Addy said “I don’t! If they are still there, we can just robber them!”. I’m feeling so relieved that my smoking, fast-tracked little girl isn’t ashamed to include me in her life of misspoken crime 😛

  1. Oh my goodness, so adorable. We really do need to write the things our kids say down. I can’t believe how often I think “I’ll remember that” and then later I have no idea what it was I was going to remember. So were the kittens still there? Did you robber them? 🙂
