Review:
This is such a beautiful book with amazing illustrations and fairly large print which is welcoming to a young reader. The stories are long enough to feel complete but short enough to capture the attention of audiences of all ages.
The myths and legends in this book are taken from traditions such as Norse, West African, Iroquois, Nigerian, Greek, Chinese, Celtic, Indian, Welch and Russian. They are divided into three book sections:
- Earth, Air, Fire and Water
- Love and Death
- Fools and Heros
I have to say, though, that the most intriguing part of this book is the beautiful watercolor-type illustrations done by Kady MacDonald Denton. They truly bring the stories to life and add so much to such beautiful and timeless treasures.
If you are looking to introduce your family to a timeless book of mythology from around the world and throughout history, this is a beautiful book of stories to begin with.
Tips: Try mapping out the areas of the world that each story originate from to help your child visualize the worldwide origination of mythology.
Bottom Line: This is a beautiful book of short myths from throughout history and around the world that is a must-have for all history libraries. I wish all home schooled children would have a chance to flip through this great treasure!
