Whew! Coming up for air.

It has been an insane few weeks. I will try very hard not to keep blogging about how busy I am and how little time I have for blogging because LAME!!! But I am barely treading water here and my brain is weary from logging details. I am so incredibly scattered that I have found myself completely losing track of what I am doing dozens of times…a day. I know its because at any given time I have about 10 different things I want to try to do at once and so long before I accomplish even a small task (say, google something…) my brain has moved on two or three times. I feel like I’m running a marathon…and coming in last.

That said, life is interesting. Here are the highlights:

  1. I got a book in the mail today to review for my homeschool curriculum reviews which is crazy because I didn’t actually request it. I have a working list of books to request but how kismet that this one just….arrived! And on a topic that interests me! And now I have the direct contact info for the PR lady so I don’t have to go through the form mail like I had planned. Niiice.
  2. Addy stopped drawing for about a month but picked it up yesterday again and its amazing to see the cognitive leaps that happen in such a short period of time (without practice or repetition). She finally “gets” that letters have to be in a certain order to spell words. I had tried, in vain, to explain that a few times before but she just did not get it.  But now she does and she is excited about spelling words – namely, her name :P
    Also she is excited to try and draw new things but the level of detail and imagination she pours into her drawings has really soared. Like when she draws a house, she thinks to put herself inside it and thinks to draw clothing on herself now. And when I ask her to draw a tree, she thinks to add a tree swing with someone swinging on it attached to the tree. And when she draws flowers, she draws TYPES of flowers – marigolds, roses, etc. And the stems are not sticks, they have dimension. And leaves.  It’s fascinating to watch. And she’s still drawing with both hands.
    {the first time I asked if she’d draw me a flower:}
  3. Ethica has come out in opposition against two pieces of legislation and we have brought on a new board member (good blog-friend to all of us and amazing advocate with a brilliant mind, Rachel – whose blog I don’t know if I’m supposed to link to, so I won’t). Good stuff. Lots of work.
  4. Tony has two job leads – one in CA and one in DC. He will know about the CA job probably this week or next, the DC job lead is just playing out. Good thoughts appreciated. Speedy, good thoughts, specifically :)
  5. Noah has really improved his reading this summer and is also doing an oral therapy suggested by a friend that, I feel, has made the most significant progress to date on his oral sensitivities. Today he ate an apple with the peel on which he hadn’t been able to do before. He is having less anxiety about food, which is a huge deal.
  6. Ethan is learning all kinds of things this summer – how to do his own laundry, do the dishes, what kinds of foods he loves, to pick up after himself, how to draw complex pictures, how to play Spore, how to swim without plugging his nose, how to dive, magic tricks…the list feels endless.
  7. Teegan and Paige are both reading (or re-reading) HP books. The kids (except Addy and I) went to the midnight HP release – very exciting. And now they want to read the books again. Even Ethan is trying to tackle one of the books.
  8. Teegan and Dalton have been spending the summer with a friend and many days (and some weekends) go by that I don’t see one or both of them. I know that this involves some sort of obsession with Halo 3 because when I DO see them (ok, mainly Dalton) the pleas for an Xbox 360 do.not.end. Ever.
  9. Paige has been making new friends in the neighborhood too. It’s fun to see new people in the pool or yard who we have literally never seen in our neighborhood before. Paige = social magnet.
  10. Tony was awarded Microsoft MVP for the something-th year in a row (3rd? 4th? sorry Tony). That rocks. Plus also comes with good loot. He’s always so nice to spread the loot amongst the kids.

    Nicki ~ Tell me about the issue with Noah and food sensitivities…I think PJ may have something like this as well. Some textures make him gag or he avoids them altogether.

    Nicki, that Addy is just so talented. Boy, those videos were impressive. Great news about Tony’s job leads. I hope that resut in a new opportunity for you guys. You deserve a break. Is it something where he could work from home or would he be office bound or a mix? Whatever, I just hope it results in employment for him and that it is something he would enjoy. The job market is just so tough right now.

    fingers crossed for DC. it is pricey and loads of traffic but you will be closer to me and have more opportunities there! And the Addy stuff is amazing. Mia and Cams get letters make up words but aren’t close to drawing them!
