life, love & laundry
{Does the elf on the shelf come to your house? The kids love him but boy is he CREEPY!}
I had the WORST night’s sleep. I finally got our Christmas tree up in our bedroom last night. We left the lights on all night and, suffice it to say, that was a terrible idea. My body was all “It’s noon! Wake up!” Plus it was hot in our room (unrelated to the lights) and Tony fell asleep in Addy’s room getting her to sleep. It was an all-around terrible, no good, very bad night.
I woke up exhausted but had to get in a shower before getting Addy to gymnastics by 9am. I stepped in the shower and kept grasping at my hair. I felt like I had forgotten something and it was probably that I threw on a hair tie and forgot to take it off. Turns out? It was my clothes I forgot to take off.
Seriously when the day starts like that? You can only go up!
Addy had fun at gymnastics and afterward we went to pick up a Christmas gift from Addy to her brother but the store wasn’t opening on time. Right next door was this place I have worked REALLY hard to avoid all of Addy’s life. It is PINK and GIRLY and all about the FROOFROO and the nails and hair and GAH!!!!!!!!!! Yuck. They even have a huge pink limo that is pretty famous in the area for hosting tiny girl birthday parties. GAK!!! I swore I’d NEVER take MY daughter in there. But we had time to kill and so we wandered in and you would have thought we walked into Disney. This was Addys Store. She gasped, audibly, over and over. She squeeled. She screeched. She literally jumped up and down. I could have been invisible- she was in her element. No toy store has EVER elicited a similar reaction. This proves, once and for all, that girly-ness is all about the nature, not the nurture. She was seriously like a mouse on speed – bouncing from display to display at break-neck pace. When she’d seen it all, she headed back into the salon portion of the store where she announced she’d be getting a haircut. Turns out they were having a Really Good Deal on haircuts so I let her. She got an inch off and it looks so much better, although not at all shorter. It’s the first time she’s had a haircut in a year. After they topped it off with a glitter spray coating, a pink glitter stamp on her hand and a gourmet lollipop on a 12 inch stick that kept getting stuck in my hair made her very happy. I have to admit, it was fun to spend time with my girl doing something she really found joyful. Even if it made me throw up a little in my mouth.
Things did get progressively better. I found out that I unexpectedly received a Christmas bonus at work – huzzah! I finalized a few Christmas card orders. And we launched this totally awesome Family Preservation project at Ethica that I am incredibly excited about.
{I love christmas bokeh but this is something new to try – christmas starburst! Can’t wait to try it with my zoom lens!}
No, you didn’t. Seriously?!? You seriously took a shower with your CLOTHES ON?!?!?!?
That’s like the Dove commercial. Have you seen that commercial? YUCK.

Cracking up that you took a shower with your clothes on (totally sounds like something I’d do) and really, really cracking up about the pink store, as I know how much it must have about killed you to do it!

Dude, even I haven’t gotten in the shower with my clothes on. :) Although that probably doesn’t speak well of me b/c I’m always so concerned about having on my old granny shower cap so as to avoid washing my hair that I’m very focused before I get in the shower. So, pretty much if you just stop washing your hair, that probably won’t happen again.
I know EXACTLY what store and stupid pink limo you’re talking about; we had the same one in the shopping center right by my old house. Vomit fest even for me, and I’m someone who would totally dye my entire daughter pink if I could. :) I’m glad you had a nice day with Addy, though. That’s great!
I’m super excited about your Ethica project and really hope you expand it to my city. I’m still so impressed by the idea and the initiative. It’s going to to be great.
Oh, and way to go on the Xmas bonus!

The elf gives me the creeps. As do the all-pink stores. Though I’ve been known to go in and maybe even squeal a teeny tiny bit.

Jenny – I got the kit and the 50. So far I’ve only used to the 50 but will try out the kit when it warms up a bit outside.

No elves at our house…I tell my kids that Santa has a live feed to all of the store surveillance cameras and he uses them to see if they are naughty or nice ALL YEAR LONG.
