Today was a good day, tomorrow may be even better!

Today I got my camera. After what was the longest 7 months ever. 7 months of missed milestones,  family events and special moments I’ll never recapture. I may never stop being bitter. But today? Today I’m happy. Actually not quite happy. Hopeful. That’s a better word. Emotional, for sure.

About 30 seconds after my battery charged Noah got stung by a wasp which was a Major Crisis. So all I got were a few semi-lousy pictures of him in agony which, go figure, he did not appreciate :) My kids are super-happy about the camera too, did I mention? ha.

I found a great groomer for my dog today. It is funny how little things can be such a big relief, huh? I also need to find a good vet but I am thinking that is a lost cause. But I found a great groomer and my dog loves her and my dog smells good and is clean. That is money w

ell-spent. If anyone from my area wants a recommendation, let me know. She’s insanely reasonable and very experienced.

I got my Christmas cards today. I.love.them. I mean I really REALLY love th

em. I’ve never had Christmas cards that I LOVED before. And I wasn’t sure how they would turn out at all so I was really super nervous to get them. They’ve totally surpassed my expectations.

Oddly, the camera should have been the highlight of my day but these cards were. I’m trying to figure that out. I think it’s because the camera has a lot of angry resentful emotion tied up to it. I should have never been without it so having it finally is a mixed bag. The cards are pure love and joy, something I created myself because they made me happy – for no other reason. They are not something I feel like I had to sacrifice once before due to mistakes I didn’t make. I expect the joy will be short-lived with the cards while maybe, with the camera, the joy will come later. In use.  The first time I capture some special moment in the lives of my children that I would have otherwise missed.

I’ve held off on blogging about this but I think Noah has actual friends

in the neighborhood. This, for sure, trumps all of the above.  This was my remaining reason for wanting to move. Now I’m out of reasons. I’m happy for him, extremely relieved and feeling a huge sigh of relief over the concept of settling in. For any homeschooler who has a shy kid in a neighborhood without other kids, you will understand what a big deal this is. As big of a deal as it is to me, it may be a bigger deal for Noah.

I was supposed to go to a photography dinner and shoot but I had to work and also it is FREEZING. I’m sort of sad. It would have been so fun to go shooting with other photo-moms. Ah well – next time.

Our 5 day forecast

So tomorrow. It’s hard to imagine tomorrow out-doing today. But tomorrow?

IT SNOWS!!!!!!!!!!!

We had snow last winter and it was a shock. I did not expect it this year, for sure. It is a HUGE HUGE deal. It is all anyone can talk about. Everything is canceled in preparation for this snow. If it does not come, many children will be heartbroken. We are ready for it!

And by ready I mean that we spent 2 hours at the park two days ago on a day I could SEE MY BREATH and my poor daughter wore a sweater. Because we don’t own coats. So we went out on a mission to find coats. Turns out? They aren’t exactly for sale here. Sure you can find a windbreaker or maybe a sweatshirt. And it isn’t becuase they are *sold out* – it’s becuase they are *not sold*. Ironically? You can find boots in 10024 different styles so you can make it to your car through all this deep snow, right? But no coats.

Thankfully we found what we were looking for at the good old standard, Old Navy, where they sell both winter coats and bikinis (do they do this all over the country? Or just the south?). So now my poor daughter can go outside this week without freezing to death.

If it does snow I will be ready with my camera. Because it may never snow again. And dammit, this time I’ll have pictures.

Our Old Navy sells both too, though I doubt we’ll ever get to use the coats for snow. We got a few flurries two winters ago and my kids are now convinced that every winter will bring snow. Never mind the hundred times I’ve told them my husband has lived in LA his entire life and only seen snow on the ground twice. At least we have snowy mountains!
I’m looking forward to seeing your photos!

Our ON only sells bikinis in the summer, winter coats in the winter…it’s a seasonal ON. :) Maybe they have a protocol for different weathers.

What the heck is going on with the weather? That is what OUR weather should look like, only it was 65* and gorgeous today!

Congrats on all of the above!

LMAO about the coat comment. We are over here in FLorida and I have the same problem. Seriously folks…it’s called a COAT! IT’s going down to 38 degrees tonight and I do the multiple sweater thing too. I’d order online but Isabel is so small I don’t know if anything would fit her right.

The fact that you had such a great day (minus the wasp) made my day, as well. I can’t wait to see new photos!!

Oh I’m so happy for all the good reasons you have to be happy today!! :-) And also a little jealous about your cards. I got mine, they’re okay, but I don’t LOVE them. Probably because they are standard issue deals from an online photo place that anyone can plop a few photos into. I think next year I will definitely have you design something for me. :-)

SO glad Noah has friends. It is a huge deal – even for public schooled kids. I don’t think I realized before I was a mom how much it would matter to me that my child have friends they really like and value.

No fair you got snow before us!! Can’t wait to see the pictures!!!

So, so happy for you that you got your camera! And so, so hapy for Noah that he has found friends in the neighborhood! And so, so jealous that you have a neighborhood in which to live so your kids can make friends and don’t feel the need to go to crappy public school just so they can be around other living, breathing humans besides their mom. See? I really do get what a HUGE deal this is for Noah, and for you. And I’m starting to get the camera thing too, because my good camera is starting to not work right (as in I can’t get it to focus at least half the time).
