Splish Splash

As I slowly get to the end of my ability to blog about meaningless nothing, I thought I’d do a post about bath fun, because Addy had a bath tonight and had fun. See how that works? Anyway I’m thinking of getting some new bath toys for the littles for Christmas and I think they generally make great, inexpensive, fun gifts.

So do your kids have stuff they play with in the bathtub that keep them in it for hours? What do they love? What is crap that mildews quickly and gets tossed?

Our favorite current bath toys:

Dress-up Dolls – these are super fun but can I just suggest you get TWO of these sets if you have more than one child in the tub at a time? They stupidly only come with ONE doll to dress up. But they come with lots and LOTS of awesome accessories and clothes and pets and stuff. The doll sticks right to the bathtub side for easy dressing and comes with a mesh bag on suction cups. We’ve had these since Addy’s birthday in April and no mildew! LOVE them

Bath paints. These things are soooo much fun. The quality actually really stinks – they are more like colored goop than “paints”. Your kid probably won’t be able to PAINT with them, not even with the accompanying stamps. The result is just a blob of color. But they are fun and we did all kinds of experiments with color combining, painting our bodies, painting every last area of our tub, making hand prints, etc. Seriously this stuff is worthy every penny and then some.

Duds in the tub:

Dolphin Water Symphony – we have them, we use them. Addy and her little friend took a LONG bath and played all kinds of games with them. the little life preservers are often used as fake “floaties” by my girl. But for their intended purpose? Don’t hold your breath. You can’t actually hear them making different noises well. And the life preservers that link together fall apart if they are bumped at all and they aren’t easy to get back together. Plus they are big and bulky and don’t store well.

Boon Flo Dispenser/Faucet Cover: This thing is supposed to flow the water gently into the tub and protect your kids from dying from fatal blows to the head when they inevitably knock into the faucet. There is also a cool little area for dumping in bubble bath so it mixes as you fill the tub. It’s super cool in theory. Practically, though, it only fits on very standard faucets, which is not our faucet. That means it essentially doesn’t work for us at all. It fits OVER our faucet but it doesn’t work right. So basically I have to take it off to fill the tub (or risk spraying water all over the kids, the bathroom and myself) and then replace it when the water is turned off. It protects well enough but since that is only a small part of it’s job, it isn’t quite worth the cost.

So there ya have it. Now it’s your turn!

Sean has this habit of giving the kids every empty plastic container that we produce to use for tub toys (the tubes the Crystal Light comes in, dish detergent bottles, the container the chocolate milk powder comes in…). The kids love using them for pouring on themselves and squirting things, but he has a tendancy to go overboard. After awhile, my tub looks like a recycling bin. LOL

Thanks for the suggestions. Those dress up dolls are cool! I’ve never seen them before.

we use those things you got the girls, which I can’t for the life of me remember the name. And the girls have the symphony but in hippos. They have squirters which are a huge hit. And I was thinking of getting them some Yo Gabba wall things. They love the bath but are starting to get more into “cleaning themselves” so that take ALOT of time.

Ben puts his action figures in a toy boat in the tub. And his dad let’s him put EVERYTHING in the tub… The other night I discovered he had like six of his Thomas trains in there (not the wooden ones, but still). I was like “please let’s not rust out $7 trains!!”

Oh the mini bilibos! I forgot we use those too!!! I didn’t know YGG had bath wall things – hmmm, might have to look for those for the laugh factor alone!
