life, love & laundry
I’m happily blogging from my brand new office locale! I’m so happy I could squeal!
It all started when we went over to the HomeGoods store to do some home decor shopping. I say that loosely because if anyone is as bad or worse than I am in the home decor department, it’s my husband. We are pretty much a pair. After what seems like forever, we settled on a bunch of stuff….for our yard. Yeah, that happened. Mission: fail.
But we would not be deterred from productivity. We got some wild hair and in a few hours we had completely turned our house upside down moving furniture from room to room. Its like we just moved in! By the end of the day, one child had moved out of his room and in with another child (giving my oldest son his own space for the first time in his life! Huzzah!!), we had moved my husband from the central living room of our house into the bedroom so he now has a more private and offset “office” space (side benefit: I can have friends over without feeling like I’m putting him out and interrupting his work day!). And I moved my own office space from the same central living room to our previously unused family room. I’m particularly thrilled with this move because it lets me overlook the pool (where the kids will spend their summer) and also lets me be in the ONLY well-lit, sunny and bright room in our house which was a major bone of contention for me for a long time. We reorganized the furniture in a bunch of rooms, we deep cleaned in a bunch of rooms. It’s good. Very very good. I actually feel like we could stay in this house for a few more years without self-destructing. And let’s face it – when your whole entire family are home pretty much constantly, like ours is, you really have to love the space you are in.
So our house is still without charm, without decor, but it’s now spread out amongst several rooms and not all crammed into a single space. It still lacks things a family our size and with our level of presence requires (like a real office, and maybe a workshop for me, and an additional bedroom and a pantry and a utility room). But it’s much MUCH better. Whew!
We still have to tackle the every-overwhelming “game room” upstairs but hopefully we’ll get to it this week and be done with the major reorg soon. Just in time for house guests.
You reorganized AND cleaned! You must be over the moon! I’m very happy for you! I wish I felt we could stay in our house a few more years after a good cleaning.

Oh, I’m way too jealous of a clean, organized house. It seems like the impossible dream…..

Oh my gosh, organized space…what a dream. I use to have that before 3 kids. Now it is a lost mission. How wonderful

I hope everyone really enjoys their new spaces! I’m working on de-cluttering my house. It’s going slowly, but it’s going. Isn’t that the most important thing?

I often read your posts and think we’re living parallel lives (except when I read your sewing and photog posts, of course). I’m spring cleaning this week too which also means repurposing our spaces to fit the way we’re living. Our office is now out of the family room and into a large nook off the kitchen, the girls room is out of the basement and into a main floor bedroom, and the toys are out of the FR, DR, and KIT and into the new rec room. We still have one overwhelming task too (unfinished side of the basement), but it feels good to have living spaces we can use efficiently again! I’m feeling your joy!

I want to hire you. Now. How soon can you and your reorganization team be here?

Wow, that sounds like a big job and also like a lot of fun! I love moving stuff around, it makes everything feel new again.
