life, love & laundry
My girl….boy, let me tell you! She is one crazy pumpkin. I love her to pieces, I love how totally TOTALLY different she is from raising 3 boys. I love how her mind works and how she thinks and moves and processes everything. She’s fascinating to me. But BOY is she sassy and spirited, at times.
This was dinner tonight. She ate a bunch of cooked carrots we served with dinner but does NOT like raw carrots. I didn’t think twice about leaving them on the table when we all left the table. This is what we found a little later. This wasn’t the finished product. The mounds grew much larger. Thankfully we have pets who will eat these pieces. Because although her “game” involved promises of eating one pile, at the end she did announce she had already ate them all. Dead pan. Despite the mounds in front of her. Fantastical thinking makes me smile :)
Speaking of fantasy – Addy has been in full swing with her imaginary friends lately. You might remember she has a best imaginary friend, Halista – whose name is slaughtered borrowed from the Best Friends Club Ink doll line. Her imaginary friend Halista, looks JUST LIKE the BFC Ink doll, Calista, I’m told.
I had never actually seen these dolls or their commercials. Recently Noah gave Addison an American Girl Doll catalog (if ever I was to punish a child of mine, this ALMOST drove me to the brink!!! I have tried to hide American Girl from Addy since she could walk and turn pages!). She ooooh’d and ahhhh’d over every page in that catalog – ESPECIALLY their matching girl-doll outfits. Sigh. She fell in love with an American Girl puppy. And just LOVES one girl in particular – a Just Like You doll with straight brown hair and bangs who looks a lot like Addy :) But the doll that really caught her eye was this one:

She SQUEELED: “She looks JUST LIKE HALISTA! Except she doesn’t have glasses.”.
Who knew that Halista was black. And had glasses? Not me.
So I hunted down the Real Calista, in preparation for Addy’s half-birthday on Wednesday:

For a doll made these days, I think she’s pretty cool. She’s a brainiac, she is not your typical white, blond doll and she wears glasses. Of all the best friends club ink dolls to choose from (there are 5, including one named Addison and one named Noelle!) she is totally the coolest. I love her. Plus she’s less than half the price of the American Girl and comes with stuff. They also sell these dolls in 11″ (Barbie-sized) versions and the 11″ Calista sports a natural ‘fro and a tshirt that reads “geek” which is totally awesome. I’m not exactly sure why my girl picked her but it makes me a little proud :)
It almost makes the daily clothing battles, in which she will not pick out clothes without “help” but will not accept any form of “help”, bearable.
Also lately she thinks she’s super-funny with the jokes. The endless, endless jokes. First it was the knock-knock jokes. Thank GOD that stage was short-lived. Now it is these jokes – in which she must ALWAYS ALWAYS end the joke with “get it?” and repeat the punchline. SHE thinks she is hysterical. As you might notice in the video, my fake laughter has seen better days. Cut me some slack, I’ve been fake-laughing for over a decade!
