Measured in Baked Goods

You know how some people can measure their summer in vacations or trips to the beach or skinned knees? We can measure our summer in baked goods. It’s really getting out of control. As soon as we finish something, there is something else in the works.

So let’s call this weekend Cherry Dump Cake weekend.

Yesterday we headed out to a local weekend activity where we split up with the big kids who took the trolley to the mall. Meanwhile the littles made pinecone bird feeders* and colored pictures and pet some ponies. It wasn’t fantastic. It was miserable outside already and we didn’t stay long. We took the next trolley to the mall where we met up with the bigs and grabbed a bite to eat. Then we went to the science museum (located inside the mall….but not for much longer as it, along with the children’s museum also in the mall, are both closing very soon – sob) which was super-cool and fun for all. We stayed for a really long time and geeked out over the dinosaurs and bugs. It really is a great extension museum, we will be so sad to see it go.

Eventually we made our way out of the mall and waited for the trolley to come take us to the library. And we waited. And waited. They are supposed to come every 10-15 minutes. An hour later and it was nowhere to be seen. there is no phone number, the water taxi people (who own the trolley too) had no clue and the cop on a horse said they had sent out a search party for the trolley but had no ETA.

Doesn’t that make our little town seem super super cool? Trolleys and water taxis and cops on horses? It really is pretty cool.

Except the trolley idea is seriously flawed.

So Tony and Dalton hoofed it on foot to go retrieve our car on the other side of town. In the 104 degree heat. And they definitely beat the trolley.

We decided that all that misery deserved some Sonic Happy Hour** and then we hit up the library. Finally. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, the trolley drove on by. I have never been so tempted to flip off something that otherwise reminded me of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood in all my life.

We got a million books and headed home for ‘dogs and fries. And Dump Cake.

As an aside, this was a big day because Noah tried – and loved – two new foods. He tried terriyaki soba noodles which was a big deal because they had sauce with actual flavor which, prior, would have been a disqualifier. He ate masses of them. Then, at dinner, we made him a corndog and he ATE it. He has had tofu dogs and loved them but not corn dogs. He said he’d definitely eat one again. I am so proud of him!  I knew he was anxious about the corn dog but he was unbelievably NOT anxious about the noodles. We have even started having conversations about moving onto some new therapies pretty soon. He’s not ready yet but he’s instigating his own therapy now and that, alone, is a huge deal.

Today was not so exciting. It involved me geeking out on the computer working on website updates and coding while the kids entertained themselves. I did take a time out to enjoy the pool which, thanks to some previous storms, was actually refreshing (as opposed to hot).

And then we ended this wonderful weekend the way we started it: with baked goods. This time Tony, Noah and Ethan whipped up a batch of Snickerdoodles. Let’s hope Snickerdoodle Week ends with a job, right?

* have I mentioned the Tell Tale Heart cardinal fledgling that never shuts up? I told the kids they absolutely could not put those bird feeders in the front yard because GOD FORBID we do anything to ENCOURAGE the Tell Tale Heart to continue beating. So they hung them in the back yard today where the dog ate them for dinner. Oops.

** Was SO wishing they sold REAL drinks at the Sonic Happy Hour.

Cherry Dump Cake and snickerdoodles are about enough to make me fall of the wagon(the no carb wagon, which I have been on for a week, and lost nary a pound…)

I’ve never heard of cherry dump cake, so I had to google it to see if it was what I was picturing in my mind. Yum! I’ve added it to my weekend things to do list. Thanks!

Ahhh…nothing beats Sonic happy hour. I’ve started planning my errands for 2-4 in the afternoon just so I can get a slushie. I’ve told Sean that I don’t care about massage oils and focal points for labor this time. I had just better have a lime slushie to sip on.

Yes, I have a problem. LOL.

Snickerdoodles . . . mmmmmm. If I weren’t getting ready to leave for the evening I’d be pulling out the KitchenAid.

When I first read your title, I read your title and I thought you were talking about waistline.

Sounds like a nice weekend, minus the missing trolley.

I knew there was a reason I don’t go to Sonic. Couldn’t put my finger on it, but now it’s clear!

It would be really awsome if I could type/think. Didn’t mean the “read your title” thing twice!
