It’s not writer’s block

I have been absent. I know. It hasn’t been for lack of things to say. In fact, it has been totally insane around here. There hasn’t been a second to spare for blogging. Or breathing. Or sleeping.

I knew it would be insane this week so I carefully constructed a schedule that would ensure that I got everything done. It was supposed to make me feel better. It didn’t. Instead it made me have a panic attack. Because it turns out there is not enough hours for Christmas AND a job. How does the rest of the world do it?!?!

But I figured out a way to make it work. But NOTHING…and I do mean nothing…could go wrong.

I’m pretty sure you can guess how that went over.

Badly.

It started when, on a whim on Friday, I decided I would finally get around to cleaning out our 3 year old oven. So when Tony was gone for several hours with Addy and the house was quiet and all I had to do was work, I set the oven on self-clean mode. It wasn’t long before Teegan came in wondering about the fire in the oven. FIRE. Is it bad that my response was “Dude, I’m working. Can’t it wait?!”. I’m not proud.

Thankfully the fire put itself out, I think this may be a somewhat normal – or at least typical – oven cleaning phenomenon. Very unsettled. And hard to concentrate on work. When it seemed that all was finally well, suddenly there was a lot of smoke. Which meant that I had to ventilate the area (and the oven hood was NOT going to cut it). While it was a nice day (coincidentally), it was not super warm out. So I opened the windows anyway, set up a stand fan and crossed my fingers that we didn’t get any smoke damage or any weird thing.

Thinking things were finally under control (and still trying to manage my job at the same time), I suddenly heard the fan start grinding loudly. And then the oven started beeping, flashing an error code. Awesome. It broke.

Just in time for christmas baking, candy making, solstice dinner, christmas eve dinner, etc. I seriously wanted to cry. Thankfully it got fixed today so we are back in service. Four days behind, but back in service.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, I thought I’d get my husband to clean out the dryer vent because FIRE HAZARD. And also it would save us time, right? I need time!!!! It would save time because we had been drying each load of clothes 3 times to get it dry. Yeah, you can say the dryer vent situation was a little overdue. So finally this weekend he did it, he cleaned it out (mostly). And I was SO happy.

Until I went to do a load of wash yesterday at which point our entire main floor flooded. Turns out he hit some connector trying to move the dryer in and out. So now we had to clean up nasty, filthy water all over our house plus we had to wash 100 loads of towels. At that point I was beyond tears.

On the upside, we went (in the middle of it all – timing IS everything, is it not?) to pick up our new puppy, Chloe. She is just the sweetest girl ever. And crazy. I love her. She fits in here perfectly. The kids adore her. Our pets are all adjusting well. She’s all curled up asleep with our other dog, Lilo, right now. There is something about a new puppy that just brings joy and peace. Although the timing may not be ideal by anyone’s standards, it turns out that she is JUST what this crazy week needed. Suddenly I am forced to take breaks, sit outside in the BEAUTIFUL weather and just…be.  She is just what I needed.

{this picture makes me laugh – Chloe has to do everything Lilo does – even itch!}

    The puppy is soo cute but I would die right now if we got a puppy. No more puppies in our future. Enjoy. Oh and I TOTALLY need to get my dryer vent done as well!
