life, love & laundry
The first time I borrowed my friend’s camera it rained the entire week and was miserably hot. The second time I had beautiful weather. Beautiful….but cold. Or cool. But definitely cold by Texas standards. I’m not complaining – I’ll talk cold over hot any day. I should point out that there was only 3 weeks between shoots. Amazing how fast the seasons can change.
I’m trying to learn more about lighting, a definite area of weakness for me, in my never-ending quest to be the world’s most knowledgeable photographer who doesn’t own a camera. :) So I took my early riser and headed to the park one morning at 7am where we took a few hundred pictures from various angles under the morning sun. It was fun.
But very very cold.
When we got to the park there was frosty dew on the grass. I was not prepared for this. We got SOAKED but at least I knew enough to bring a blanket for our Christmas pictures.
By the time we were leaving the park an hour later, the frosty dew was quickly turning into wet drops everywhere. An hour later the Earth was dry again. By noon it was 75 degrees. Crazy.I did drag another kid out in the evening to learn about dusky light. I definitely prefer the dawn.
So the results of my lighting lesson were inconclusive. I figured out that I still very much suck at natural lighting and that there is apparently only about 10 minutes of non-harsh lighting to work with here in Houston in the morning and maybe less in the evening. But I also learned that it is 7am when you can find all the most beautiful nature photography. Too bad I tend not to get up until closer to 9am. Maybe a camera would be just the thing I need to turn me into a morning person :)
The vast majority of the pictures I’ll be posting in the next month will be from this one morning shoot.
Hi Nicki,
I know you have probably already mentioned this but…
what kind of camera is this one that your friend is letting you borrow?
I really like the sharp details.
