gratitude

Addy - Christmas 2009

Maybe it just came a few days late to our house. My family seems to be overflowing with gratitude today. It’s refreshing!

Addy and Noah seem to be having some unspoken Holly Jolly Christmas Spirit competition. Addy is a HUGE fan of Christmas. She loves all the songs on the radio and can frequently be overheard humming or singing carols around the house. She is overwhelmed with gratitude about every part of Christmas – the lights, the tree, the decorations. She keeps making presents for Santa (like yellow hair bows!) that she wraps up carefully and sets under her little pink christmas tree in her bedroom. It is the sweetest thing, ever. Noah, always nostalgic during holidays, is not letting me down. He is meeting Addy where she is and living for every new moment and experience. Today we set up a train under our tree and seriously it is like the kids won a lottery. SO happy. I have to admit, it was pretty fun.

But Noah’s real gratitude today came when we finished cleaning up his room. He literally could not stop thanking me and gushing over how amazing it felt to be in an organized room. Teegan, who shares a room with Noah, was also full of gratitude! I have to admit, cleaning away clutter affects the body, mind and spirit. I heard once that the state of clutter in your life is a direct reflection on your mood and state of well-being. I totally get this!!

My cats are not so grateful. They have staked out the underneath area of our family christmas tree as their own territory and they did not appreciate the (train) intruder. They completely knocked over our tree (and smashed really meaningful ornaments) in their attempts to capture the bad guys. Sob. But *I* am grateful that the damage wasn’t nearly as bad as it could have been .

I’m also grateful that my husband did not die or break his back when he hung lights on our second story roof today. This always makes me sooo nervous. This year he had the added challenge of working around a very active wasp colony. Not for the weak of heart. And I’m grateful for 80 degree weather with which to hang lights. And no rain. And no wind.

I know I said I’d order my camera today but I didn’t. It isn’t like it will get here faster if I order it on a Sunday. I have this tiny smidgen of hope that somehow, some way, there will be a good deal to be had tomorrow (Cyber Monday for the uninitiated). I know this is SO unlikely but since it won’t affect my arrival time (Wednesday), it can’t hurt to wait, right?
