life, love & laundry
Sunday was…….perfect. Like really truly perfect. The kind of day I have needed for the whole year but was beginning to think was the thing myths were borne from.It was a perfect mix of down time, self-indulgence, productivity and grunt work. Per.fec.tion.
Tony and I started the day by watching Four Christmases in bed and decided this is going to be our new weekly routine. Not Four Christmases, per se, but some movie we haven’t yet seen. We are too beat to make it through a movie, awake, by the end of the day. But we really enjoy watching movies together. So Sunday morning it is. And if you’re looking for a truly hilarious movie to see? Check out Four Christmases. It is a great way to start the day (or end it if you are not old like me)!
Later in the day I took Christmas photos of three sweet boys and their Mom. Her boys were so fun and we I had a blast! I think I am going to make it a “thing” to always shoot the stressed out Moms. :) This picture should definitely be their Christmas card this year, right?
I also took my oldest two sons to get their picture made because I really needed assistants wanted something nice to send to their family this year and really had nothing with them *together*. I was really intimidated because there were pro photographers at the park. But we scoped out a few great spots. I have had about *thismuch* time to figure out how to work my new camera. I meant to prepare for this shoot but didn’t find the time. And I could not get my white balance right and everything looked weird in my display. And not weird in a good way. I warned everyone that we might not get a single decent photo from the bunch and was worried enough about my pictures that I almost made my boys go back for round #2 before all was said and done. I am swimming in confidence.
When I got home and looked at my pictures, I was stunned. Like tears in my eyes stunned. My pictures were way WAY better than I could have imagined. I guess it helps when your expectations are very low. My throw away rate was below 50% for both shoots and, let me tell you, that is WAY lower than usual for me. And note likely to be repeated. But this camera? Is amazing. My 50 mm lens that *autofocuses* is amazing. I want to cry just thinking about my love for this camera. There was exactly ONE shot that I wished I’d had another lens for and the lens I wish I had costs over $2000.
Plus also? I totally rocked the Lightroom. I did not have to use photoshop ONE TIME. That is also a first (in a big way – Photoshop is my crutch). I had no idea you could just take raw photos and devleop them and not have to try to salvage each one!
Yesterday I was thinking about how I stole this hobby from my husband in such a rude way. He had been talking about getting a DSLR since they started really making pro-sumer DSLRs. And I mocked him, criticized him and held this high level of disdain for the whole concept. WHY on EARTH would anyone spend that much money on a CAMERA?!?! What a huge waste of cash. And time. For a camera. After all my Sony Mavica with it’s on-board floppy disc drive and it’s 1MP sensor were all the camera any human could ever possibly need. There was literally not an ounce of my being that could imagine why anyone would want a camera unless they were a pro photographer. Now, if the last year has taught me one thing it is that, next to my kids, my camera may be THE most important thing in my life. My poor husband. On so many levels.
Anyway my camera passed my test with flying colors.
My boys had friends over. Friend. Over. To our historically lonely house. And not just my older kids but Noah too.
And we wrapped gifts. And the kids were joyful about their gifts they spent so much time picking out for each other.
And I got in some work.
It was a good good day.
So glad for your super duper day and your fab new camera! Pics look great.
And yes, Four Christmases is soooo funny!
