life, love & laundry
{the look of awe when Santa Claus showed up!}
I love Christmas Eve. The anticipation is so fun. The slow pace, the yummy food we always have, the ornaments we always open from my Dad & StepMom. This year my Mom is here visiting for the holidays and since she invented most of our family traditions, it’s extra special to share them with her. She made all of our appetizers tonight and they are YUM!!!!!!! I’m so thankful that she’s here.
The kids are having a bath before bed and soon will be setting out their cookies for Santa and trying very hard to sleep despite their excitment. So much fun!
There is a lot I’m thankful for this holiday season. I’m thankful that my family is together, that my Mom is here visiting despite all odds, that I had the money to pull off a humongous holiday, that we managed to get it all done BEFORE today.
{purple drum set, please, two cymbals}
But most of all, I’m thankful for the magic. Like watching Noah & Addy’s faces when they watched their videos from Santa. And watching Dalton decorate his Prized Christmas Cookie (pictures to come). And the joy on Addy’s face when she saw the lights first start to appear and the trees start to pop up here and there in our community last month. And the look on Noah & Addy’s face when Santa first appeared at our local event. And the nervous magic of sitting on Santa’s lap for Noah (think Ralphie in A Christmas Story). And the joy on Teegan’s face when he gave Dalton the Best Gift Ever (a mini-fridge full of soda).
And I got to take pictures of all of it.
{very nervous}
And tied for all of this is…….good health. It is a total miracle to me that we are healthy for Christmas. I have been dreading the inevitable round of illnesses that was sure to hit our house this fall/winter. And the closer it came to Christmas, the more I was sure our luck had run thin. I threatened to make the kids all recluses from December 15 onward but my kind heart won out over my selfish heart. Still – the crowds, the coughing, the germs, the kids EVERYWHERE. And we are so very healthy. Amazing.
Happy holidays to all of you, my friends and family. I hope each of you have a beautiful day full of joy and magic and peace and warmth.
Merry Christmas Nicki and Family- so happy for joy for you guys!
