365 – Month 4, Week 2

Whew – I’m getting behind!! I can’t believe April is half over already. This 365 project really highlights to me how fast time flies.

98/365: I am amazed to see my dead neglected yard spring to life. When things bloom, I’m shocked. It is a testament to the amazing winter we had in Houston. We’re seeing things bloom that we haven’t seen in our yard since we moved here.

99/365: New glass! This is the last picture I took with my beloved, trusty 50mm 1.8 lens. Even though I’ upgraded glass, I felt a little weepy about retiring my nifty fifty! That lens was so good to me! So far the verdict is still out on my new lenses.

100/365: 100 DAYS!!!!!!! We took a drive out into the country today and stopped at a lavender farm. It isn’t picking season yet but the kids had fun trapsing amongst the lavender and through the flower fields nearby.

101/365: this isn’t a terrific picture, technically speaking, but it makes me smile. Addy was playing around in the backyard and stood up on the swing for the first time. She was simultaneously petrified and thrilled. She could not stop squealing and giggling. This is probably one of those moments I would not have been present for a few weeks ago due to my crazy schedule. I’m so blessed! Every time I look at this picture I smile. Every time Addy sees it she says “That was so scary and fun!”

102/365: Bluebonnet pictures today! This year I dragged my family out the country for pictures. They were troopers. I truly love driving out to the country. It is like driving into another world. Everything and everyone is different. For the first three years I lived here I thought it was sort of like people pretending to be living in the Wild West – tourist-attraction style. It finally occurred to me this spring that, no, this is actually genuinely how people live here!  This was only a small part of the decor at the local Dairy Queen :)

103/365: Teehee! How can you look at this picture and not smile?!? This is Sancho, our favorite kitten. When he came to stay with us, he weighed 85 grams. That was 3 weeks ago. He’s the runt of the litter but he’s always been the first to hit all the milestones. First to open his eyes, first to crawl, first to open his ears, first to walk. He’s always exploring and is just adorable.  I will miss this little guy (or girl! I am a gender-determining drop-out).

104/365: Super duper Mom’s Night Out. First I had my photography business meeting, which was awesome as usual. Then I had another “business” meeting with some friends of mine at the bar. We shut this place down. But I loved this old cowboy! He made me smile and I knew when I saw him he had to be my picture of the day! We later moved to TGI Fridays which was totally insane. INSANE! It was packed, there were DJs playing trivia games and people were wild! But not wild in a “clubbing” way. More wild in a “I’m an upper class WASP college punk and I’m gonna drink a lot and go crazy playing loud trivia to 1980′s sitcom theme songs” type of wild. You’ll have to take my word for the hilarity. Anyway we did get some actual business worked out but mostly it was just a totally fun (and exceptionally rare) night out for me!

I actually like the one of Addy the best, then the lavender shot.
